Caned Furniture Trend
Is the caned furniture trend coming back? Why yes, it is coming back, and we are so here for it! Caning has been around for centuries, and it had another big moment back in the 70’s.
On our trip to High Point Market this fall, we noticed a lot of caning, and used in a lot of different ways! We’re excited to bring in some into our homes and our projects.
Furniture Trend 2020
This trend came right out of the 70’s, so let’s talk about how to keep caned furniture from looking too Boho. Here’s how:
1. Use Sparingly
Rather than furnishing the entire room with caning, rattan, bamboo, and wood tones, pick one piece you love and mix it in with other styles.
2. Add Black
We saw several caned pieces with black, which seems to act as a bridge to a more traditional style. If the piece you love doesn’t have black on it, bring black into the space in another way to ground the room (bonus tip: we think every room needs a touch of black for grounding).
3. Avoid Other Overtly Boho Pieces
If you’re avoiding the 70’s/boho look, then be careful what other pieces you pair with your caned furniture. Macrame wall hangings, sheepskins, and large scaled palm tree prints should probably be avoided. While those are maybe more obvious, also watch out for chunky textures in drapes and pillows, as they tend to pull more boho when combined with caning.

We loved this caned console so much we had to use it in Abby’s office. She loves having all her files and printer out of sight.
And our caned chairs in Shandy’s living room are kid approved.
