Happy 4th of July! Have you had a good weekend? Rain and sick children have kept us mostly indoors, but it’s still been nice to be home together, and we are looking forward to this extra day off! I wanted to pop in and share a few 4th of July memories, as well as my favorite 4th of July home decor and outfits from around the web. It’s so fun to see how creative people get with red, white, and blue!
I have such fond memories of the 4th of July growing up. Most of them revolve around celebrating at my grandma and grandpa’s house, where eating homemade ice cream (peach and cookies and cream) after dinner was a tradition. Once it finally got dark out, the fireworks started. My parents and aunts and uncles let the older kids light most of the fireworks. Our adrenaline would kick in trying to escape the blast, sometimes slipping on the remains of the little white poppers and sawdust the younger kids used up before dinner. My brothers would blow up EVERYTHING with Black Cats, often going through a whole package in one go. The air smelled of barbecue and smoke bombs, and I developed a healthy fear of sparklers. My ears would be riding for hours, but it was always worth it. Every year looked a little bit different, but the theme of family and fun was always there.
I remember my mom having a few little decorations for the 4th, but nothing too involved. This year was my first time to really do much anything for this specific holiday. I had some challenges, mostly related to the amount of orange in my home, but you can see what I came up with in my 4th of July Home Decor post.
The House of Silver Lining is on the list of my favorite home decor blogs. She brings a lot of drama to some of her rooms that I just love, but she kept it simple for the 4th, go see her Simple Styled 4th of July post!
Centsational Girl did a roundup of interiors decorated with red, white, and blue, but not for the 4th of July; they look like that year round. I was pretty impressed with how the designers used such a strong color palette but it didn’t feel like a patriotic theme at all. It’s really fun to look through, see her post called Three Cheers for Red, White, and Blue.
Do you like to dress up for the 4th of July? It’s not something I’ve done in the past, but I think it’s just because I didn’t know how to do it well. Here are links to a few outfits I would wear in a heartbeat:
We are hopefully going to spend some time with friends at a picnic this evening, as long as my kiddos are feeling better! What are your plans for the holiday? Do you have private fireworks or go to a large display? I’ve done both over the years, and they are both fun in their own ways. I hope you enjoy your day, Happy 4th of July!!
