Trends can be tricky y’all. I am certainly never the first to jump on a trend. In fact, I often miss trends all together (which isn’t always a bad thing). But I’ve recently discovered a way to stay “on trend” in a way that won’t leave me cringing when I look at photos in 10 years. Today I’m sharing how to stay on trend with color!
How to Stay on Trend with Color
Every year, Pantone (read about them here) comes out with the color (or colors) of the year. They also have a larger coordinating palette for the different seasons. When Pantone releases colors, you can immediately find them in clothing, accessories, and home decor. So while I’m not jumping on the chance to wear cropped flare jeans (I mean?!), I’m really into the color Dusty Cedar for a blazer and maybe some Spicy Mustard to warm up my living room for fall.
It’s crazy that I am just now catching on to this concept, but I thought you might not know about it either. So today I’m rounding up my top picks for the trending colors for fall in home decor. Stay tuned for my picks for fashion!
Blues, Pinks, and Greys
As I mentioned above, Pantone picks a a color of the year, and this year they did two: Rose Quartz and Serenity (a pale blue). You can incorporate those colors into your home for the fall season, but I’d like to add some of their warmer colors as well. You can see all the fall colors on the Pantone website, but these were my favorite finds for Rose Quartz, Sharkskin, Dusty Cedar, and Riverside.

I already have a lot of blue and grey in my home, so adding touches of Pink Quartz and Dusty Cedar will be as simple as switching out some pillows and a couple of pieces of artwork. I’ve also chosen items that are easy to change out, so if I want to change it again in the spring (I will), it won’t be another big purchase (as opposed to a rug or furniture).
Yellows, Blues, and Dusty Pink
I really love the combination of dark blue with Spicy Mustard and just a touch of Dusty Cedar. It feels so warm and sophisticated.

Pantone also has a lovely taupe shade included in the fall colors, so if you have more warm tones in your home (instead of cool grey like I do), these color combos will still work for you! Which colors for this season are your favorite?
