Brookside is such a dreamy part of town. We were thrilled to do interior design in Brookside Kansas City! We love driving through this neighborhood. So many beautiful, huge tree lined streets filled with charming homes. No cookie cutter in this neighborhood!
Interior Design Brookside Kansas City
The client contacted us for two focus areas. The layout of the living room was tricky. It’s a long narrow room, and these types of rooms are difficult to work with, especially when there is a TV involved.
The other focus was that they needed help decorating to suite the style of the home. The house is about 100 years old, and very traditional. Previously, the clients lived in an industrial loft, and the furniture they had wasn’t quite right for the new space.
Our goal was to bring in traditional pieces that felt classic and timeless while also meeting the needs of a young couple and their toddler. Sometimes people think of traditional furnishings as being stuffy and old fashioned, and that certainly was not the vibe this young family was going for.
There is a new style out there called New Traditional. It takes the lines of traditional pieces and gives it an updated look with more current fabrics and patterns and color schemes.
The clients were drawn to a blue and white color palette and landscape art. We brought in really simple lines in most of the living room furniture, and added a wingback style recliner in a beautiful, buttery leather. The color of the leather, the legs of the ottoman, and even a simple wicker tray all add warmth to the cool color palette in the room.
Because the living room is long and narrow, there was plenty of space for another seating area by the buit-ins. Styling built-ins can be tricky, if you have built-ins or shelves that need styling, check out our video on How to Style Bookshelves.
Eat In Kitchen
In the eat in kitchen we brought in a landscape painting and some family photos. The clients loved the idea of a locally made dining table, so Billy with Intrinsic Design designed and made this table out of one tree he sourced right here in Kansas City!
