This is a big day for us you guys. We have been following the One Room Challenge for several years, and finally this year we are participating! This twice a year event has provided so much inspiration for us over the years, and it’s so exciting to be joining the fun.
The One Room Challenge
Not sure what the One Room Challenge is? It was started by Linda Weinstein in 2011 as motivation for herself and a small group of friends to finally get a room finished in their own houses.
Interior Designer’s often fall prey to not getting their own homes finished (the cobbler’s son has no shoes?), and she thought that giving herself some accountability and a deadline (6 weeks!!) would help her stay on track.
Fast forward to 2020 and thousands of rooms have been transformed by designers and design enthusiasts alike. Now, 20 people participate as featured designers and work with brands to complete their rooms.
But there are also a lot of people (like us!) who participate for fun and motivation. You can check out other participants by visiting the ORC Blog. You can also follow these hashtags: #oneroomchallenge and #bhgorc.
2020 looks a little different than previous years, for obvious reasons. The challenge is starting about 1 month late to allow for people needing to shelter in place. It will also be running for 8 weeks instead of 6.
Kitchen Renovation
If you follow us on Instagram, you know that Abby and her husband started a kitchen renovation during quarantine. They started right around the time that the One Room Challenge was supposed to start, and we’ve been saving up all kinds of photos and behind the scenes to share with you guys!
But first, let’s look at the before photos of the space.
When Abby moved in she new immediately that she wanted to update the kitchen. There is just a lot of brown going on in here. A lot.
Two things worked in her favor to be able to take on this kitchen renovation. 1. Her husband Billy is incredibly talented when it comes to anything home renovation/repair/build. 2. He had a lot of time on his hands.
It all started one day when Billy decided to see how hard it would be to remove a backsplash tile. None of us knew exactly what that would lead to, but man we can’t wait to show you all the transformation!
Here’s a look at the mood board for the design of the new kitchen. We will be diving into more specifics on those selections in the coming weeks!
Check in next Thursday for the plans and demo process! Don’t want to miss a post? Subscribe to our newsletter to keep informed!
