One Room Challenge Week Three
This week we are sharing more of the design plan for the kitchen. But before we dive in, I’ll remind you that you can follow along with so many other talented designers and design enthusiasts who are participating in the One Room Challenge through the ORC blog. Also check out the hashtags on Instagram: #oneroomchallenge and #bhgorc.
Shall we review where we started? I never get tired of this before and “after”. We aren’t even done and the change is so significant.
Major difference right? The fresh paint alone makes the room feel brighter. So here’s the plan. We are closing off a doorway to what is supposed to be a formal dining room (it’s used as an office) and putting the refrigerator there.
And we will call it “Home Economics”.
That leaves an empty space where the refrigerator used to be. But, that also creates an opportunity to improve the function of the kitchen, and we could argue there is not a more important room in the house to function well.
The one hesitation Abby had in taking down her upper cabinets was, where will the spices go? The pantry really seemed too far away. And the dog food and water was living in the panty, and that wasn’t ideal either.
So Billy started building cabinets to match the old ones. There will be a drawer that pulls out with the dog’s food and water, and above it will be the microwave. Plus, a slide out spice cabinet.
Next week we will be tackling another very important part of a kitchen, light. If you aren’t subscribed to our newsletter, sign up below so you don’t miss any of the updates!
