It’s demo day!! If Chip and Joanna have done anything (and they’ve done a lot), it’s glorified this step in the design process. They even made a T-shirt. But in reality, demo is usually a little longer than a day, it certainly was in Abby’s kitchen. One Room Challenge Week Two is a pretty exciting step in the process, ready to see?
If you need to get caught up on what the One Room Challenge is, you can read about Week One, otherwise, let’s dive into demo.
One Room Challenge Week Two
As a reminder, here is what Abby’s kitchen looked like before. Dark cabinets, dark floors, dark tile, and literally everything was brown.
If you read last week’s post, you know that this whole renovation started with a small piece of backsplash tile getting removed.
Next thing you know, cabinets started coming down too.
It’s incredible how much of a difference taking down the uppers in the kitchen made in the overall size and light in the room.
Abby and I are both big advocates of using fewer or no uppers at all if you can get away with it. The room feels lighter and more like an extension of the other comfortable and livable rooms in your house when there aren’t wall to wall cabinets literally hanging over your head.
But, I digress into the design phase of the project, which we will be sharing more of next week!
Living through a kitchen remodel is a messy business, but you still gotta eat.
And have drinks. The drinks are essential.
Here is the mood board for the direction we are headed in this kitchen design. We can’t wait to share more about the design plans!
Hint: here’s an inspiration image from Pinterest that has definitely played a role in guiding some selections for the kitchen.
In the mean time, make sure you check out the other participants demo progress on the One Room Challenge blog. You can also follow along with the hashtags #oneroomchallenge and #bhgorc on Instagram!
