White paint is hard. I know it sounds simple, but white paint is notorious for ending up looking anything but white. Why? Undertones are everything. The undertones in white paint (acutally in ever shade of paint) dictate whether it will lean a bit yellow, pink, blue, or green. Why would anyone want white paint that looks yellow? Because even before undertones, light is everything. How much light your room gets and from what direction determines what undertones the room needs. Add in the other elements in the room (what color is your trim/flooring/furniture?) and you have a recipe for a white paint disaster. Keep reading to see our favorite white paint colors.
Our Favorite White Paint Colors
While we have to consider and test white paints in every room we design, there are definitely a roster of our favorites that we always start with.
Benjamin Moore White Dove
For rooms that get a lot of natural light, Benjamin Moore White Dove is a wonderful soft warm white. It does not feel stark at all, and in most rooms with a lot of light we have found it to not read too yellow either.
Benjamin Moore Simply White
For a brighter, fresher version of white that still doesn’t feel cold and stark, we go with Benjamin Moore Simply White. If a project calls for a fresh and clean vibe, this is our go to.
Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee
Another warm white favorite is Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee. Abby’s personal favorite, she’s used it in most of her house and loves the creamy white effect.
Sherwin Williams Oyster White
Sherwin Williams Oyster White is a nice neutral slightly warm white. We love it on this house (design by Laurie Champ Design), it’s great both for an exterior and interior.
Sherwin Williams Snowbound
Sherwin Williams Snowbound is another fresh and clean white with just a touch of warmth. We love it for large all white spaces.
We hope our favorite white paint colors give you a good place to start on your white paint journey!
