Bigger isn’t always better, but when it comes to design, there are certain items that make so much more impact in a more succinct way when they are bigger. Art is a great example of that. We all know that the gallery wall had a hay day, and it’s not necessarily over. But more and more I find myself drawn to really dramatic, really large pieces. Below are some of my favorite examples of oversized art done right.
Playing with Scale: Oversized Art
I LOVE this style of abstract art, and the dramatic scale of this piece over a small desk and chair certainly makes it a focal point.
Honestly, this one made me laugh a little when I first saw it. But art is subjective, and the scale of this piece still grabs your attention. What do you see in this piece?
Not sure what to do with a massive wall? Commission a massive piece of art.
A lot of people would have gone for a gallery wall here. I love the daring of this oversized art instead.
Obviously this piece is a lot smaller than the ones above, but it is still quite large (and definitely dramatic) for the wall space. Photographs are often used in a much smaller way, but would this photo have as much power in a smaller size?
How do you feel about oversized art? Does it feel intimidating or inspiring? Remember, sometimes you can spend almost as much on a bunch of smaller pieces as you would on one big piece, but you’ll have exponentially more impact. I love the oversized look so much I have a special board for it on Pinterest. Follow me to see my favorites (a few I didn’t share here) and to get updates as I find more!
