Tucked away in the heart of The National in Kansas City Missouri is a beautiful two story new build that has housed a family of six for the past year. This home was custom built by Jay Jackson, a well-known builder in the area. The home is beautiful, the finishes felt fresh and current, but the client’s existing furniture did not function well in the new home.
Wanting to make the house feel more like a home, we had the honor of designing the furnishings to not only function well but also reflect the client’s personal style. Our goal was to make it feel cozy and complete.

Living Room Design
The Before:
The main thing to be addressed in the living room was that the sectional was not the right orientation to really maximize the seating capacity. We opted for a sofa, two chairs, and a daybed in front of the floor to ceiling windows to maximize the view AND the seating.
The After:
For this project we used custom upholstery to give us the function (size, scale, shape) we were looking for and used fabrics to create the mood. The fabrics are performance to hold up to 4 kids and their friends, and the textures and colors created the soft welcoming vibe we were going for.
After getting an idea for what the family wanted for a color palette and overall feel, we began selecting fabrics, wood tones, and other accessories that we put in a mood board to display how the room would feel.
We were able to create a space tailored to the client. The size, pillow fabrics, and upholstery pieces were all thoughtfully chosen to make the room flow together effortlessly. The combination of the warm neutrals and soft blues speaks to the client’s relaxed and welcoming nature. The space is perfect for the family to relax in and enjoy.
Master Bedroom Design
For the master bedroom, our main focus was to create a cozy retreat that also felt complete. We wanted to make the space soft and warm while also keeping it bright!
When designing this room we started by choosing soft neutrals to make the space more inviting. From there, we added in some color. It was important to make a statement without overpowering the space.
To make the room feel finished, we added in lots of different layers. We did this by incorporating multiple textures such as a velvet coverlet, textured table lamps, multiple mirrors, and a tasseled throw. Adding greenery in different corners of the space made the room feel complete.
This client is a joy to work with, and we love bringing her style to life in her home. More spaces to come!
