We are big believers in supporting local businesses. We love finding amazing shops and makers in Kansas City. It’s fun following along with their journey and bringing special pieces into our homes.
Now that we own a small business, we are even more aware of the importance of supporting other businesses in our community. We love being able to use locally sourced pieces for our client projects and carrying our favorites in our own shop.

One of our favorite local artists is Cassie Lane. She uses acrylic, but layers with colored pencils, oil pastels and even paint markers and spray paint and describes her work as hopeful and optimistic.
Cassie says:
A self-taught artist, I find that it is the process of creating that truly sustains me. There is a push and pull with the color and balance until the final piece surfaces. I have recently fallen in love with mixed media abstract art, where I feel I can enjoy the freedom to create loosely, not worrying too much about the end result.
My work is colorful with a hint of whimsy, influenced by experiences and memories from my life. I aim to provide a sense of peace – a soft landing place – with each piece that is created. My goal is for more people to experience original art through approachable abstract paintings that spark joy for the viewer.
When we asked Cassie if you had one word of advice for women starting a creative business, what would it be, she said:
I think the most important thing before starting a creative business is to find your passion and define your purpose…then just go for it! Oh, and always be authentic!
Cassie will be popping up in our shop on First Friday Weekend, August 7-9. We would love for you to come see her beautiful pieces in person!
